But why is it called Mons?
I didn't realize where the name came from until I saw the Dutch (Flemish) version: Bergen. Mons is plain ol' Latin for mount, and the city really is built on a little hill. The terrain around here is flat as a pancake--or flat as Kansas, if you prefer, which a bunch of Texas geography profs have proven is in effect flatter than a pancake--but Mons is on an itty bitty hill in the midst of all those Kansas-flat beet fields.

1) What a coincidence. I was just thinking this morning that "Mons" must have a sister city named "Almond Joy". Because sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. (That joke is probably too new for Fella 1 and too old for Fella 2 - and too bad for anyone, regardless of age or number.)
2) According to the class I took on machining and engineering drawings, not only is Kansas flatter than a pancake, but the entire Earth is smoother than a billiard ball.
